i only have the folkart artists' varnish gloss to finish over acrylic work, but can i use it for an oil painting,or will that ruin it?Can i use varnish gloss for an oil painting?
Hon, that depends on whether or not your varnish is oil-based. (if it is, the can will indicate mineral-spirits or paint-thinner cleanup, as opposed to soap and water cleanup.)
If it's a water-based varnish, be sure to get some Minwax or other non-water-soluable varnish for your oil painting. Warning though: such a varnish will slightly ';amber'; the color of your painting, and darken it over time.
