I have some furniture with a varnish on it that I want to paint, aswell. Can I use a spray paint on it?

Yes. Sand, prime, paintI have some furniture with a varnish on it that I want to paint, aswell. Can I use a spray paint on it?
Absolutely. Make sure you get like... a medium grit sandpaper (you'll be able to tell teh difference when you go to the store) and completely sand the entire piece. You'll want all the shine gone from it. Then spray it with a good coat of primer (this helps the paint stick). The darker or lighter or color of the primer you use will effect the color your painting it so, be careful with that. Let that dry completely then spray a few good coats of your chosen color, letting it dry completely in between. Make sure you don't make each coat too thick because it will run and you'll have to do more sanding. Also make sure you do each coat in stages. Letting each area dry for a couple minutes before moving to your next part to keep it as even and less runny as possible. Then, when you're done with that you'll want to put a clear coat (shiny or flat) over that to protect your paint even more. If you do all that right, you'll have a nice, new piece of furniture! Good luck!

(if you don't sand properly, the paint will peel off the varnish)I have some furniture with a varnish on it that I want to paint, aswell. Can I use a spray paint on it?
Please do not JUST sand, prime and paint. It will eventually crack, or blister, or flake off. Paint DOES NOT LIKE VARNISH!! First, strip the varnish with a varnish stripper, such as ';Jasco';. One heavy coat, then let dry. Then coat again and scrape off varnish while it's still moist. Wash with lacquer thinner and terry towels(and gloves), then when dry, now is the time for sanding. I prefer to use increasingly finer grits of garnet paper. 80G, then 120G, then 220G. The better the preparation of the product, the better your paint will look and hold up. Then prime and paint. Good luck!
Yes, you can use spray paint. However, you will need to sand, sand, sand some more, then prime and paint.
