What is the best way to get paint off wood so i can stain-varnish it?

Scrape it down with a paint scraper and then you will have to sand it-I like to take it down to a 400 or even an 800 grit. Nice!

Or...

You can use a product called Circa. It takes anything off. But, it is very caustic-you will need gloves and a well ventillated area or a mask to breathe through.

good luck.

I have an old, old rocking chair I have spent about 20-30 hours on doing it all by hand. It's worth it though in the end. What is the best way to get paint off wood so i can stain-varnish it?

and if want a varnish type finish, use a clear base from paint. We use ICI brand, but any clear base product will work. We use this because it is available in a Low VOC form. (We only use Low VOC exterior paint/product and Zero VOC interior products. (No Teflon either!!)

get a paint stripper at your local department store. It works great its a liquid/gel and you need to do this out side for sure.
