Polyurethayne is safe for reptiles after it dries it is a plastic base material. Stay away from laquers and enamels the odors emited even after they are dry can be toxic. I still use cages that my father built 30and 40 yaers ago that have a poly coat. It is a little expensive. You can find spray cans at any paint store or at any Lowes, Home Depot. Hope that helps.Can anyone tell me where i can buy pet safe varnish to paint a Tortoise table or if normal varnish is ok?
Polycrylic is the same as Polyurethane but is water based and safer for uses where animals will be living.
Polyurethane is fine but be sure to let it air out a week before putting your animal in there.
