Can you use a solvent base polyurethane varnish on top of arylic paint-what do you recomment for a varnish/?

Yes, you can use a solvent (oil) based varnish on top of acrylic (water) based paint. Just ensure that your paint is dry.

You cannot do other way around i.e. water based finish wont go over oil.

Yep, Polyurethane can be used over pretty much anything so long as the paint is dry underneath. ITs pretty much the best varnish for most applications - it looks best if you don't slop it on, but put on two or three coats leaving an hour or so between them. Can you use a solvent base polyurethane varnish on top of arylic paint-what do you recomment for a varnish/?
