Replace the bad odor with a very pleasant one. Liquid Gold has a very pleasant odor and will protect the wood very well too.
If you mean inside the cabinet, you can stuff it full of newspapers for a little while.





They also make these bags full of some sort of volcanic rocks that absorb odor. I got one at Home Depot. The bag is nylon mesh.





I keep one in my garbage cabinet and it works!
