Is it possible to varnish over poster paint with clear wood varnish?

i made a box for my wii accesories using a postal packing box i had a item off ebay in, i paper mached it with newspaper then again with white a4 paper then painted it red in poster paint. did 2 coats but need a third. was wondering if varnishing the box with clear wood varnish after the 3rd coat(if it looks ok) is a ok thing to do. just want it to look less like a blue peter rush job lolIs it possible to varnish over poster paint with clear wood varnish?
I would go for an artwork varnish as these are designed for paintings - any artists shop or possibly even WH Smiths will sell it. However, if you do want to payout for that then any DIY varnish that is not too yellow in colour should do - just test it is compatible with the paint first by painting a sample peace and varnishing it, if it causes the paint to lift or run then try another varnishIs it possible to varnish over poster paint with clear wood varnish?
actually it is done all the time. solven born varnishes tend to amber.

polycrylics will stay water clear if you do not apply heavily, they tend to go milky if applied to heavily

modern masters has clear coats that are water clear and i haven't had any issues with them going milky on any of the papers and inks that i've used them on.
Hi

PVA glue would also work
Yes it is as my wife does it,,
