Why am I not supposed to varnish an oil painting for months after being dry?

My painting is completely dry, after a few weeks. Why am I not supposed to varnish an oil painting for months after being dry?
When the painting is dry to touch you can use retouch varnish to let the colors stand out or you liquin. Just go over the whole painting. If you are going to use finish varnish wait a year so it will let the paint dry correctly and will bond with paint correctly. You won't the varnish to rest on top of the paint not to go in the wet paint so in the future if you want to remove the varnish you won't destroy the paint underneath. Why am I not supposed to varnish an oil painting for months after being dry?
An oil painting increases in mass at first as the drying process begins while it takes up oxygen. Later, the painting gives off gases as the paint film matures. Varnishing too soon will seal off contact with the air, interfering with oxidation at first, and later trapping in gases that should be permitted to escape. In addition to affecting proper curing, sealing the painting too soon can cause poor adhesion and haze in the varnish layer. The previous comment is correct regarding retouch varnish- it will give a good, uniform appearance and protect the painting surface from dust if the picture needs to be sold or displayed before a final varnish can be applied.
No it's not dry! Oil paints dry by oxidation not evaporation so the various pigment is the determining factor in how fast it dries.

An example of oxidation can be seen in the paint of an old car. The binder has been oxidized out leaving only the pigment and since it did not bind to the steel it rubs off.

The paint on your canvas will bind to its surface once the oil is gone.

If you varnish before this oxidation has taken place the surface is likely to crack.

Here is a website that gives helpful paint tips and a time chart on pigment dry times.

Because some color dry on the surface but underneath still wet, especially red color, so wait a few month before you varnish it.
good bye
