No they are different. The ingredients are different. The clear coat paints don't offer the protection that the varnishes do, but I find they are much easier to work with. If you are deciding between the two,I recommend the Clear Coat. Unless you have worked with Varnishes before, I would stay clear of them or try them out on some scrape pieces first. You can run into quite a mess if you don't know how to properly apply varnish and the results could be a very big let down. ByeeIs clear coat paint actually just varnish?
In the paint industry, these two phrases or words could be used interchangably. For all practical purposess, yes they are the same. But possibly for a specific project, there could be a difference. Give us more info if needed.
