I have painted and finished an oil painting some time ago and put several coats of damar varnish over finished and dry painting. Now I want to change some of the picture. So how do I take the varnish off.How do I remove damar varnish from a painting, and can I paint over a sanded area of varnished painting.?
Use a solvent like turpentine and a q-tip and remove one section at a time gently rubbing the varnish off, be carefull to stop when you reach the paint layer, especially if you worked with glazes.
